Spring Garden Church Wedding in Minneapolis on 35mm Film

Intentionally Candid & Documentary Approach

From the very start, Sam and Eric were clear about their vision for the day. The goal was to create a relaxed atmosphere where they could truly enjoy themselves without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by a strict schedule. They envisioned their wedding as a big celebration of love with family and friends, complete with a popping dance floor that would keep everyone entertained all night long.

It was important for the photography to feel natural and authentic. “I definitely want some formal photos with loved ones, the bridal party, and Eric. However, I really want as many candid/loosely posed photos that show off our personalities and the personalities of our loved ones,” she shared. “I want to remember the day through fun candids rather than the official posed photos. I love documentary-style candids.”

Eric echoed this sentiment, adding, “I am not the best poser in the world, in fact, I’m usually sort of bad at smiling on command, especially for long periods of time. I would love as many candid photos of Sam and me as possible.”

From Tulips To Church To Downtown

To begin, we started off the day together at the Lyndale Rose Gardens, Sam arrived looking absolutely stunning in a flowing gown, topped off with a long pearl veil. Their private first look unfolded in a secluded grove of trees, surrounded by blooming flowers and the soft sounds of birds chirping in the afternoon sun. We took all morning portraits in the garden. I’m obsessed with all of the tulips, garden tones, and spring pastel florals!

Afterward, Sam and Eric got married at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, just a few minutes away from the Lyndale Rose Gardens. The setting was truly timeless, with the church’s beautiful architecture and the sound of the organ filling the space. What stood out most was how their families came together—everyone was so warm, personable, and full of smiles. It felt like a true celebration of love and connection.

After the ceremony, their celebration moved to The Riverside at the Minneapolis Event Centers. The reception space was stunning, with natural light streaming through large windows and a grand prism chandelier casting rainbows across the room.

Additionally, one of the standout reception actives of the night was the phone book audio guest book. This creative addition allowed guests to leave heartfelt messages, funny anecdotes, or well-wishes throughout the evening. And let’s not forget the temporary tattoo station, which was a huge hit!

As the night continued, the real fun kicked in with a few surprises that brought a unique twist to the evening. Medical-themed props, stethoscopes, and shots came out, and the dance floor went wild! It was such a joy to see everyone embracing the playful spirit, letting loose, and having an absolute blast!

So What’s The Wedding Timeline Look Like? (Example 10 hour timeline)

Example 10 hour wedding photography timeline with…

  • 3 different locations
  • No morning getting ready or details
  • Private first look and vows
  • Church ceremony
  • Separate reception location
  • Sunset pictures
  • Late night reception coverage

Sam and Eric’s priority was having plenty of time for their first look and intimate vows, as well as a lively, unforgettable dance floor experience later in the evening. They decided to skip the morning getting-ready photos and detailed shots to focus on these key moments instead.

By focusing on a documentary approach, I capture the different moments of your day, ina way that feels natural and not like a staged, all-day photoshoot. I hope these details about their timeline give you a better idea of how a full wedding day can unfold within 10 hours. Every couple I work with receives custom timeline planning based on their vision and needs. With over six years of experience, I’m here to help you craft the perfect plans to have a stress-free, memorable day.
