It was a moment six years in the making. From the heartfelt “of course” to the raw emotions that followed, Jeremy and Renee’s story has been one for the books.
They first locked eyes at a hanging out Uptown VFW, in Minneapolis. Both were talking to other people, but Jeremy did a double take when he saw Renee, and she boldly walked up to him with a simple, “You’re handsome.” That’s all it took. They had their first date at Aster Cafe, and the rest is history.
The Secret Proposal Plans
Now this wasn’t just any proposal—Jeremy also coordinated a surprise engagement party with over 30 friends and family, some of whom flew in from out of state. Talk about the love, attention to detail, and logistical planning that went into this moment!
With the help of Renee’s mom, they even arranged for her pre-planned engagement outfit, a white dress, to be secretly brought. They snuck into Jeremy and Renee’s home right after they left–all while avoiding the at-home ring doorbell! Friends and family were asked to hide in the parking lot until after the proposal, ready to emerge and surprise Renee once she said yes.
Everyone gathered at the Red Barn Farm for a picnic with specialty farm-fresh wood-fired pizza. They laid out Jeremy’s mother’s handmade quilt—a special touch that allowed his mom to be present in spirit. Renee believed they were simply there for an intimate family picnic, unaware that this gathering was about to become one of the most memorable days of her life.
I was discreet with my cameras hidden underneath a linen coverup that hung down by my knees. I stalked them from the moment they arrived and whipped out my camera at the right time. I was locked in, capturing every micro-expression from over 200 meters away, and Renee never saw it coming.
I don’t remember much except the tears in my eyes.
And their kid’s reaction to the proposal? Completely clueless but undeniably funny and cute.
There was so much love and laughter, and for the record, the pizza was pretty stellar too.
