Brandy and Matt’s wedding in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia was a film lovers dream wedding photo and video weekend.
I flew in from Minnesota with my associate photographer to document the weekend. Just the two of us working in sync. We documented the weekend in a mix of formats—digital photography, 35mm film, Polaroid, Super 8 film, and a retro Hi8 camcorder.
Their wedding weekend took place at the Alexandrian Hotel just outside Washington, D.C. The Old Town Alexandria area is full of history—cobblestone streets, brick tones, classic architecture, and walkable blocks that made everything feel close.
Friday night kicked off with a welcome dinner at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, a former munitions plant turned vibrant art space on the Potomac River. Later that night, everyone piled into a private trolley for a nighttime tour of D.C.’s National Monuments.
Again..it was at night. And it was epic.
Imagine showing off your city at night to all your favorite people. Friends laughing in front of the Lincoln Memorial and the U.S. Capitol, dressed up and glowing under city lights. Nighttime photography like this pushes you—in the best way. Fast-paced, candid, and full of energy—some of my favorite editorial-style documentary work to date.
The next day, we were back at The Alexandrian Hotel for the wedding. Before the ceremony, we wandered a few blocks for portraits in some hidden green spots I had scouted the day before. The ceremony itself took place in the courtyard—a quiet, tucked-away space that felt just right. Their reception was a full-on party. Brandy doing the worm? Absolutely iconic. We ended the night with the most fun late-night flash portraits.
And then there’s their video. It’s not your typical wedding video. Imagine a mix of cinematic super 8 film and retro camcorders for long-form home-movie style film with fun bloopers. This is the kind of wedding photo and video coverage I offer. Less production. More feeling. And authentically vintage.

“I couldn’t imagine how incomplete I would feel without you by my side… it would be like having fries without yellow mustard.”
