It’s always an honor to document a surprise proposal! When Brendan reached out with his vision, it was clear that his proposal needed to be as unique and heartfelt as their story. He mentioned their shared love for vintage film photography so I documented their proposal on both digital and portra 800 film.

PLANNING A OUTDOOR SURPRISE PROPOSAL AT TAYLORS FALLS

Brendan was in search of the perfect spot in Minnesota for his proposal and I had him covered with ideas. With a focus on experiencing the moment in nature, we chose a private overlook at a state park the couple had visited previously. At Interstate Sate Park near Taylors Falls, there were lots of fall colors, cliffs, and a view overlooking the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. For those considering Taylors Falls for an engagement or proposal location, I strongly recommend exploring the Wisconsin side. Interstate State Park is much larger with over 3,000 acres in the park. It is much quieter and more secluded than its counterpart on the Minnesota side. You should know that there is a $50 photography permit to professionally take pictures at this park.

ABOUT THE COUPLES STORY

This brings us to Brendan and Kylie, a couple whose love story reached a new chapter. Their anniversary, falling on Halloween, served as the perfect timing for Brendan’s surprise fall proposal. The day before, nature had its own plans, greeting us with the first winter storm of the year. The resulting scene was nothing short of a fairytale setting: vibrant fall colors peeking through a delicate blanket of snow. With Kylie unsuspecting, Brendan led her through the snow-dusted paths of the park. The moment he got down on one knee was pure magic, the kind of moment that feels suspended in time. I did a pretty good job at hiding, you can tell the moment she realized I was there.
