When I asked Brooke (she/her) and Chris (they/them) what their favorite thing to do together was, Chris said, verbatim: “I mean, everything.”
It really comes down to talking and just being together. The hours of conversation that started on their first date have never stopped. Eight and a half years later, they got married at The Lowlands in St. Paul, Minnesota. And when I asked what they wanted to remember most from their wedding day, the answer was simple: the words from people they love.
“It is important to both of us to capture the day as it happens, not as it is posed,” they told me before their wedding.
Their Super 8 and Hi8 camcorder wedding video is equally candid and cinematic documentation. It’s not a short highlight reel, but instead a 20-minute long form family home movie where you can hear every vow, toast, and emotionally packed moment.

Super 8 Film + Hi8 Camcorder Wedding Video at The Lowlands in St.Paul
Unlike any other wedding video you’ve watched…

Hey I’m Bri, a Minneapolis wedding photographer and videographer bringing Super 8 film and Hi8 tape camcorders to wedding days to create something truly unique.

What You’ll See Inside this Mixed Media Super 8 + Hi8 Wedding Film
- Their relationship journal overflowing with eight and a half years of memories held between them as they take their vows. “I believe marriage is a new chapter, not a new book…”
- The theme of leaving space for what’s meant to be and Brooke’s voice softening as she promises to continue to leave space for serendipity.
- A beautiful queer love story told without gendered traditions.
- Their wedding party mock-reporting wedding drama tied to the Magic the Gathering world, leaving behind blooper reels, and well wishes you’ll never forget.
- Toasts from chosen family who’ve been there through everything.
- Old rotary phone audio guestbook messages from friends and family woven into the film.
- Guests picking up the camcorder to film their own POVs on the dance floor and heckling your mom to take shots with them.
Vintage Garden Party Wedding Vibes on Super 8 Film

Let’s also take a moment to appreciate how freakin fashionable they both are! Chris wore a sage green suit with embroidered florals on the lapel. Brooke wore a vintage style birdcage veil and blue shoes that matched her blue nails. They both had cool florals paired with their attire!

The Lowlands gave them a modern, neutral canvas with nice big window light. The upper level ceremony space centers around a statement chandelier that hung perfectly above their beautiful floral arch. I really appreciated how the light from chandelier translated on film.

The Lowlands sits in a sweet spot in the city. It’s centrally located with quick access to green park space and urban skyline and bridge views.

After the ceremony the venue flipped the upper space for dinner. The couple got a private moment to see their reception space featuring their handmade table signage; pastel napkins in lavender, green, and marigold; and fruit woven into the tablescape.

The lower level is where things get moody. Speakeasy-style cocktail hour with a terrarium installation and darker, intimate lighting.

Also their wedding cake was stunning! The floral design was just so cool and I am obsessed with the way Brooke’s wedding ring glittered during the cake cutting.

Why Super 8 and Hi8 Camcorder Wedding Films Feel Different
Hi8 tape camcorders make people loosen up in ways 4K never could. There’s something about that chunky tape camera that feels nostalgic, familiar, and weirdly disarming. Your crew stops performing and starts being real and unfiltered.
Super 8 film gives you the richness and romance of vintage cinema—the same Kodak emulsion that’s been capturing love and legacy for over a century. Not a filter attempting to simulate grain. The actual thing.
Together, they create footage that feels like something you’d find in your grandmother’s attic. Timeless not because it’s styled to look vintage, but because it was made without the pressure of being contemporary.
That’s why Brooke and Chris’s film feels the way it does. Real film. Real tape. Real voices.
A real home movie you actually want to watch.
Documentary-Style Super 8 Wedding Videography for Queer Couples
Queer and nonbinary couples deserve wedding films that feel like them. Super 8 film and Hi8 camcorder create a unique space for that since the format is intentional and innately more fun.
My documentary approach means I capture your day as it unfolds—not as a heteronormative wedding template says it should. If you want to walk down the aisle together, I’m there. If you want your sibling to officiate, I’m filming. If you took eight and a half years to get married because you weren’t ready until you were ready, that timeline is honored in the film.
